The show Ladies Football Club is an epic: the birth of a football team among workers. The project is conceived as a space of crossing and meeting on several levels: between professionals and amateurs, between sportswomen and artists, between theatre text and choreographic movements like a physical score inspired by football.
The play Ladies Football Club by Italian author Stefano Massini tells the story, inspired by real events, of workers in an arms factory in England in 1917 during the First World War. During a meal break, these eleven women improvise a football match with what she thinks is a prototype bomb, pretending to be a ball – which turns out to be the real one. They become a team “Ladies Football Club” during the war, while the men return and put an end to their passion.
On stage, a choir of women – three professional actresses and amateurs – embody this fiction imbued with reality and tell it in the present tense.
The creative process involving the meeting on stage of actresses and a group of residents shows the meeting between the story of 1917 and its resonance with today. The story of the Ladies Football Club questions the place of women in society, their tools of emancipation and the liberation of bodies. The participatory show creates encounters and acts as an act of sisterhood. The performance space becomes a powerful meeting space between the artistic and football, a symbiosis to hear the words of women. Those of 1917 pass the ball to those of today!
