The first snowfalls of the fall caused disruptions on the roads. They particularly caused problems on the A2 motorway between Amsteg (UR) and the Gotthard tunnel.

In French-speaking Switzerland, the snow notably caused a accident involving seven to eight vehicles Wednesday evening on the A12, between Vevey (VD) and Châtel-St-Denis (FR)causing one minor injury. Traffic was able to resume on the highway around 1:30 a.m. during the night from Wednesday to Thursday.

According to the TCS, a truck crossing the road caused the closure of the Gotthard motorway. The roads are covered with snow in both directions on the section between the Gotthard tunnel and Biasca (TI). Chains are recommended due to difficult driving conditions.

In Bern, bus service was interrupted Thursday due to snow, a spokesperson for the local company Bernmobil told Keystone-ATS. The trams continued to transport passengers, apart from those operating on line 3.

According to SRF Meteo, snowfall is expected to continue. Significant quantities of white gold are still expected, especially in the northwest of Switzerland, in the east and central Plateau, in the eastern Pre-Alps, as well as in the western Alps and parts of Valais.

Stormy winds are also expected in the Jura, on the west of the Plateau and in the Valais mountains. Above 1400 meters, gusts of up to 150 km/h are possible.

The first measurable snow falls on average in the first half of December in the plains and in the lower Alpine valleys, recalls MeteoNews. In St. Gallen, on the other hand, it can already snow on average from November 11 and in Chur from November 25.

Conversely, Geneva and Lugano are rather late, with the first snowfall arriving on average in the second half of December.
