It has known others over the centuries, the astonishing and magnificent chapel of the Templars of Fourches, which is located in the Vaudoué sector in the Fontainebleau forest (Seine-et-Marne). Almost 900 years after its construction, it is currently the subject of a renovation project, largely thanks to the help of the Pays de Fontainebleau agglomeration, who released an envelope of 5,000 euros to help the small association of the Center for Medieval and Archaeological Research and Documentation of Saint-Mammès, which has been passionately restoring and maintaining the building since 1973.

The building, without intervention, risks collapsing, and the consolidation of the second gable has become a priority. Unfortunately, although construction could have started, the company closed its doors. Fortunately, President Claude-Clément Perrot managed to find a new company, located in Burcy, to take over. Very often on site, Mr. Perrot and some members of the association had the unpleasant surprise of noticing that the ladder he regularly uses has been stolen : “We have two, one made of steel which is untransportable, and a second which we use all the time. She was tied with a padlock, which was forcedand the ladder is gone. Before, I hid her in the woods, but it became restrictive.”

Lots of encouragement, but few donations

A theft all the more astonishing as the chapel is located in the middle of the forest, at the end of a sloping path: “It’s very annoying, we can’t afford to buy a ladder, and it is very useful to us,” sighs Mr. Perrot. While the association will have to spend a good part of its funds to complete the project, the prospect of purchasing a new ladder really does not come at a good time: “We receive a lot of messages of encouragement, but unfortunately few donations”, explains the president of the small association, whose annual subsidies do not exceed 1,000 euros, despite a very nice video

on the recent YouTube channel, created by Sylartichot, which has more than 100,000 views.

Anyone touched by this story and likely to donate an “aluminum ladder, not too heavy” and come and drop it off at the chapel is invited to get in touch. “ We also received a beautiful bell, which is installed in the chapel,” specifies Mr. Perrot. It is also possible to give a financial boost via the Leetchi prize pool, which to date only has 2,600 euros.
