AAt the foot of the Notre-Dame de la Garde basilica in Marseille, the tall figure of Hendrik Davi – 1.97 m – slips into a hair salon. “Oh no, Mélenchon, I can’t see him,” grumbles the hairdresser as he hands him his campaign leaflet. “That’s good, he can’t see me either!” laughs the outgoing MP. Like four other MPs from La France Insoumise (LFI) deemed too critical of the “leader,” Hendrik Davi has been purged.

His mistake? Having dared to oppose Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s strategy on the Adrien Quatennens affair, on democracy within LFI, on the strategy of “sound and fury” in the Assembly and on the pogrom of October 7, 2023 – he was one of the only ones to have, very early on, described the acts of Hamas as “terrorist”. Who decided that he would not be reinvested? An obscure “electoral commission”, of which the LFI deputies know almost nothing, except that it is managed by Paul Vannier, close to the national coordinator of the movement, Manuel Bompard.
