Appointed Lens coach on June 10, 2024, at the age of 31, Will Still, who led his first public training session this Friday, June 28 at La Gaillette, promised an offensive game even if he is not going to “arrive and change everything” or “modify the identity of the club”, with recognized know-how in defense.

“The club assured me that we would be competitive and that we could bother as many people as possible, in Ligue 1 or in Europe”declared the Belgian-British during his first press conference for the Sang et Or.

Taking over from the very popular coach Franck Haise, who left for Nice, whose achievements he praised at length, Still declared that he wanted “write a new page in the club’s history.”

“You know me, I go on the offensive, in a high-intensity game,” affirmed the former coach of Reims, while denying himself of wanting “change the identity of the club”with recognized expertise in defense. “The squad has been built up over several years like this, I’m not going to come in and change everything,” said the coach.

Pierre Dréossi, the general director of the Lensois club, also present, wants to focus on the club’s training center, “a long-term job”while recognizing that in the immediate future, the club has “a large workforce, which may need to be rebalanced”. The departures of Austrian defender Kevin Danso and attacker Elye Wahi are notably possible.

Will Still, who has signed for three seasons at Lens, is at 31 the youngest coach in office in the biggest European championships.
