It is an atypical college which must be established in the old presbytery from the church of Villennes-sur-Seine (Yvelines), from January 2025.
Intended for children suffering from school phobiaits opening is conditional on the absence of opposition from the rectorate, by December 25.
“It’s not a whim”
Magali Banoun, a professional nurse, is at the origin of this project. In the past, her 12-year-old daughter suffered from anxious school refusal (another name given to school phobia). “I found myself completely destituteremembers the mother. This is not a whim on the part of these children.”
“They want to learn, to go to school, but they can’t. »
According to her, the causes of anxious school phobia can be multiple. It is based on the specific training that she followed on the subject: poorly detected so-called “DYS” disorders, children with high potential, excessive anxiety, harassment at school, etc.
8 students per level and 30 students in total
Her daughter, out of school, took correspondence courses, then was admitted to a specialized school in Paris. “When my daughter emitted suicidal thoughtsI stopped working, confides this resident of Vernouillet (Yvelines). I haven't returned since, but I probably would have if I had found a school of this type near me.
Personally concerned, it is to help families experiencing similar situations that Magali Banoun created this college like no other.
“Dropping out of school leads to isolation. The idea is to get teenagers out of their homes. »
Its main advantage: a very small workforce. Télie classes (to transmit, educate, liberate, individualize, and listen) will welcome a maximum of 30 children in groups of 8 students per level.
Lighter schedule, relaxation, manual activities…
The future director of the establishment, Anne-Sophie Sterckx, professor of modern literature in National Education and former volunteer at the hospital who worked with students suffering from anxious school refusal, explains in more detail how the college works. “We rely on correspondence courses, which allow a individualization of the route. The young person advances at his own pace, independently.”
Individual time and group time are planned, with a reduced timetable of 20 hours per week instead of 26 hours in a traditional college. “Sport will be taught differently, focused on relaxation, focusing on themselves, with a yoga teacher“, she continues.
“Manual activities are also planned in the form of outdoor workshops, such as gardening or carpentry. Learning by doing is very good for self-confidence. »
“Rediscover a taste for community”
For Magali Banoun, “the goal is to make it a small house where teenagers feel good, where they rediscover a taste for community and work. It's a stage school . » To encourage this cocoon, the microcollege will be installed in a house, the former presbytery of the church, rented by the town of Villennes-sur-Seine (Yvelines).
The former nurse also plans to establish a privileged relationship with the medical and paramedical staff following these children “the parents-medical-educational triangle is important to provide young people with cohesive teamgoing in the same direction.
