What future for the Tournesol swimming pool in the Bois-du-Château district of Lorient? The mayor of the city, Fabrice Loher, announced, Thursday June 27, 2024, during the municipal council, that a consultation would be initiated with “all interested stakeholders”. “I am thinking of clubs, associations, schools,” said the councilor. A question arises: should the establishment, reserved today for “knowing how to swim”, be open to the public? “We will also draw up specifications in order to launch a programming study which could be launched, we hope, at the beginning of 2025.”
Renovation or new swimming pool?
For the mayor, the observation is clear: “We clearly need a second swimming pool in Lorient”. Created 47 years ago, the Tournesol swimming pool is now in decline, with the appearance of leaks and equipment that needs to be reviewed. Hence another question: should we renovate or build a new swimming pool? Fabrice Loher already has his opinion on the matter. “The alternative is open. The scenarios of a programming study will have to show which is the most relevant scenario. As a first approach, from what I see, the renovations of the Tournesol swimming pools are extremely costly for relatively random results. I think that we should not exclude, or even favor, the construction of a new establishment in the Bois-du-Château area”.
Strengthen the resources of the aquatic center?
Another alternative mentioned during the council: strengthening the resources of the Moustoir aquatic center. Here again, the councilor takes the lead: “This would not seem coherent today, especially since we have the installation of some new sectors, I am thinking in particular of the Staps sector which is arriving in the sector of Bois-du-Château, from the next school year.”
Moreover, the upgrade of the Moustoir aquatic center will also be integrated into the programming study. The consultation will be launched from the start of the school year with specifications hoped for at the beginning of 2025. “This will allow us – during 2025 or early 2026 – to make a decision to finally begin a project which, I know, is much awaited by the population “.
