Since we are incapable of housing the destitute who build pitiful tent villages on the side of the roads or in parks all over Quebec, why not help them by equipping them as the UN does in disaster-stricken countries?
Today, police were supposed to dismantle certain encampments on Notre-Dame Street in Montreal, but this operation was postponed until December.
Get used to constantly seeing tents and tent villages everywhere, even in winter.
In front of this spectacle, I cannot help but think of these disaster zones that I have seen in mistreated countries.
The UN example
When an earthquake destroys a region of the Middle East or Africa, at lightning speed, the UN arrives with its humanitarian aid experts and tent villages appear to house the “badly lost”.
Whatever people say about this “big thing” (as Charles de Gaulle disdainfully called it), the UN is capable of erecting effective and well-run camps.
You will tell me that living in tents at home in winter makes no sense and that what is needed are more warm places in accommodation centers. I want to, but… there are still people outside! So, what do we do?
The damn problem
The Quebec Ministry of Transport owns this stretch of grass (which would one day widen the Notre-Dame highway, which will never happen) and is in a position to request the expulsion of these miserable canvas hamlets. .. and that’s what’s going to happen.
Why not organize a site reserved for tents on this section?
Why not lend these people decent tents?
Why not build a real organized encampment for our “poor victims” like the UN in disaster areas?
Oh yes, it’s true: the damned problem is that the more we give them, the more they will demand.
