The Swiss electronic motorway sticker is attractive. Of the approximately 11 million 2024 stickers sold, 35% were in digital form. This is the first year where buyers had the choice between the sticker and the electronic one.
The majority of electronic stickers sold were in Switzerland, around 2.35 million copies, the Federal Office of Customs and Border Security (OFDF) said in a press release on Thursday. This corresponds to 61.9% of all electronic stickers sold.
Concerning vehicles registered abroad, demand was highest in Germany (16.4%). Followed by France (8.7%), Italy (3.5%), the Netherlands (1.8%) and Belgium (1.7%).
The advantages of the electronic vignette compared to the self-adhesive vignette explain this strong demand, according to the OFDF. The digital version can be purchased on the Internet in a few clicks, regardless of time or place, and is valid from the moment of acquisition. In addition, there is no need to stick it on the vehicle and remove it at the end of the year.
Introduced in August 2023, the electronic sticker is also linked to the control plate. For vehicles equipped with interchangeable plates, only one electronic sticker is therefore necessary.
In addition, there is no need to repurchase a sticker when purchasing a new vehicle during the year, as long as the same registration plate is used. The same applies in the event of a damaged windshield. Finally, purchasing an electronic sticker in advance saves time for foreign travelers.
