The presence of four young people in a Mercedes in the heart of a sensitive neighborhood had aroused the suspicion of the police. On patrol in the priority sector of Malakoff, in Nantes (Loire-Atlantique), a crew from the anti-crime brigade (BAC) chased a vehicle for several kilometers, speeding from the city center to its outskirts, during the night from Wednesday June 26 to Thursday June 27. Refusing to comply, the driver tried to outrun the police by speeding away, but not without hitting another car in the process, without causing any injuries. The chase ended a few minutes later, around 12:30 a.m., when the vehicle being pursued left the road in Saint-Julien-de-Concelles, to the east of the city.

The driver and his three passengers, all aged between 17 and 19, were taken into custody at the central police station in Nantes for “refusal to comply” and “receiving stolen vehicles”. As the BAC patrol had noted at the start of the chase, after examining the Mercedes’ registration plate, the vehicle “borrowed” by the gang had just been stolen the previous weekend, during a home invasion in the Châteaubriant region. “Numerous items stolen during this homejacking were found in the car”a police source said. Two of the four youths were still in police custody on Friday morning. The two held in the cell, the driver, a minor and without a license, as well as his girlfriend, are suspected of having participated in the burglary. The driver, from Vendée, was also in possession of 400 grams of cannabis, which he spontaneously handed over to the police.
