During the 2024 Olympic Games, of which Versailles is the host community, the city is offering a cultural sidestep. It is thus honoring professionals in exceptional crafts, with the exhibition “Under the sun of know-how, the Masters of art in Versailles”; Versailles, a city where the creative genius and know-how of thousands of creators and restorers have shone, from Louis XIV to today. This exhibition, co-produced with the Association of Workshops of Masters of Art and their Students, and curated by Yves Sabourin, presents, at the Espace Richaud, a former royal hospital, 100 creations by 33 Masters of Art or Students of Masters of Art. It demonstrates the exceptional richness and diversity of this know-how. Multicoloured feathers on deer antlers, a sceptre combining fabric flowers and embroidery, a travel pianoforte, a felt coat inspired by the great couturier Paul Poiret, enamelled porcelain landscape discs, a stained glass window of the Palais idéal du Facteur Cheval designed by Jean-Michel Othoniel and the sword of academician Jean-Pierre Babelon, these are some of the unique and unusual creations that the public can discover in this exhibition.
