The last meeting of the council of the agglomeration of Sète took place Thursday June 27 in Mireval.

It was the last advice before summer. Given the unusual time of the meeting – Thursday June 27 at 4 p.m. at the Léo-Malet center in Mireval – several chairs provided for the community delegates from the Sète area were already there, on vacation. In short, there was not a crazy attendance for this session.

From the beach subscription

The agenda, with thirty points, was not the most exciting either. Most of the deliberations, most often technical, were adopted without questions and unanimously. Except those concerning the budgetary aspect. However, at the start of the session Véronique Calueba, for the opposition, asked President Commeinhes, following the general extension of paid parking near the beaches of Sète, if it was not possible to “offer the monthly subscription at €10 reserved for Sétois, for the rest of the inhabitants of the Agglomeration then it manages the maintenance of the beaches”. Response from the mayor of Sète: “The maintenance of the beaches is the responsibility of the City of Sète. It costs approximately €500,000 per year”.

64 homes destroyed

During this session, which took just over two hours, community delegates agreed on an amendment to the urban renewal project for the Île de Thau district. In fact during the presentation of the file, code name Horizon 2040, at the steering committee, last July, the National Commitment Committee, an organ of the National Agency for Urban Renewal (Anru) selected complementary operations. Thus, two partial demolitions are now also planned (54 housing units at Globe and 10 at Seinchole). The inhabitants will be relocated in Sète or on the territory of the agglomeration. This site is intended to create an esplanade “offering the possibility of creating real public spaces”as specified in the deliberation. The overall budget thus increases from €24 million to €41 million.

Budget Questions

Speaking of money, the presentation of the administrative accounts of the agglomeration carried out by the monotone voice of Marcel Stoecklin, finance delegate, gave rise to several requests for clarification from the opposition as much as Véronique Calueba as Gérard Prato . “In the 2023 budget orientation report, we were told that our main source would be self-financing. And now the result is that we borrowed an additional 12 million, which becomes our first source”noted the first.

Frontignan joins the national City Heart plan

During a deliberation, Michel Arrouy, the mayor of Frontignan, announced that his town had just been included in the national “City heart action” system. For an unknown reason, the muscatiere city, which ticks all the boxes, had not been included in this national system allowing state funds to be released. “I thank Gil Avérous, the president of the mayors of France, and the prefect for their support” slipped the first Frontignan magistrate.

“We are increasing the debt and despite this the investment capacity is positive in the balance sheet. When we invest the balance sheet of this sector must be negative”, noted the second. To defend himself, Mr. Stoecklin, with the help of an administrative executive from the agglomeration, spoke of an increase in the index point and a balancing subsidy paid to the budget of the waste center.

Concern for the express bus

Finally, through an amendment on the public transport service, the audience learned that the express bus lane between Balaruc-le-Vieux and Sète station would not be operational before July 2025 instead of July 2024. “There are a lot of complicated things to manage under the road”explained Norbert Chaplin, transport delegate. And clearly not planned.
