The big test of brands: the big brand in difficulty for burratas (COMPARATIVE)

New episode of our series of consumer tests. As a reminder, every week we test products sold in the six supermarket chains (Delhaize, Colruyt, Aldi, Lidl, Intermarché and Carrefour) by comparing the major brands to “white products” or distributor brands. The final score for each product is out of twenty points: 2.5 points for the appearance of the packaging, the appearance of the product, the nutritional value and the readability of the label, and 5 points for the taste and the value for money. This week, we tested burratas. For your information, Delhaize does not sell this product under its own brand.

Our big brand test: mozzarella, you can find everything and anything there! (COMPARATIVE)

Aspect du packaging : As a reference brand, we chose the inevitable Galbani. We find the classic colours of the brand, blue and the reminder of the Italian flag. It lacks a little modernity, but it works well. Lidl also chooses something very similar, with a much lighter blue, which we preferred to the big brand. For Carrefour, it is quite simple as packaging, but the product was well highlighted. On the Aldi side, they also bet on Italy, but with a very refined but very successful white package, it makes one think of a luxury product. Same strong point for Colruyt, with a darker colour. Finally, Intermarché also does well.

Product appearance: For Lidl, the texture was really nice, very runny but lacked a little smell. Same remark for Aldi. Overall, all the burratas were nice and very runny, especially the one from the big brand.

The big brand test: the sun is coming, the barbecues too, and here is the best Andalusian sauce! (COMPARISON)

Nutritional value : Nutri-Score C for everyone, except for Carrefour, which gets a D.

Label readability: it was too small for Galbani, with blue writing only slightly darker than the color of the pot. On the other hand, it was good for Aldi, Carrefour, Intermarché, Colruyt and Lidl.

Taste : We start with Lidl. It wasn’t bad, but quite bland. As an accompaniment to a pasta dish or a salad, it’s okay but doesn’t add any particular taste. Same comment for the Aldi product. For Colruyt, we loved the very creamy side of the burrata, it was a very good product. We also really liked the burrata from Intermarché, very creamy with a good taste, very fine. As for Carrefour and Galbani, we are on a little notch below. It’s ok, but it lacks a little finesse.

The big brand test: here is the best tabbouleh to accompany the weekend barbecue (COMPARISON)

Value for money: Here are the prices in order for a burrata of around 100 grams: Galbani (€4.39), Colruyt (€3.90), Carrefour (€2.99), Intermarché (€2.49), and Aldi and Lidl (€1.69).
