“Take me to the ends of the earth, take me to wonderland… It seems to me that poverty would be less painful in Chelles”… It’s humming, and with its unshakeable good mood that Lorànt Deutsch, the famous author of the bestselling book Metronomecame the Wednesday June 26, 2024 at the Chelles theater (Seine-et-Marne), to present the last episode of his series broadcast on Youtube, Full speed ahead.

” Essential “

“The project was mentioned a few months ago,” remembers the mayor of Chelles, Brice Rabaste. And the town has the honor of being in the spotlight before Fontainebleau, or the city-prefecture, Melun. “It seemed essential to put a spotlight on Chelles. It’s a city where there is a lot of history,” explained Véronique Veau, vice-president of the Department in charge of culture and heritage.

Because the little film, of twenty minutes, was produced as part of a partnership between the City of Chelles, the Departmental Council of Seine-et-Marne and Lorànt Deutsch, as the sixth edition of the Emmenez-moi festival opened. And the choice of Chelles seems having immediately conquered Lorànt Deutsch who, not without a touch of humor, declared before the screening: “I was asked ‘what do you want to do?’ Provins, Fontainebleau? » I replied “Chelles! » ».

A rich history

From the urban transport museum to rue Gambetta, via the Alfred Bonno museum and the banks of the Marne, Lorànt Deutsch shows a selection of emblematic Chellois places, while allowing himself a small incursion to the Menier city of Noisiel, and to the Jouarre abbey.

Between the toponymy of the town and the anecdotes about Sainte-Bathilde, he manages to give a lot of information in a short time. “I was able to access a lot of documentation, but I had to make choices to continue my narration, and thus avoid too many appendices. And you have to know not to say too muchso that people go and find it themselves,” he was able to explain after the screening.

However, he manages to speak of several eras. He evokes the arrival of the railway, in the late 1840s and thegradual arrival of Parisians, coming to vacation in the “countryside”. He also talks about the Triage station, the railway town, and the Gallo-Roman era.

And if he had more time, what would he have added? “The history of the local Resistance,” he asserts, without hesitation, after a question from a spectator.

This did not prevent him from inquiring about the subject, notably mentioning theformer mayor Émile Fouchardone of the eighty parliamentarians to have refused full powers to Marshal Pétain, in 1940.

Enough to please the public, who came in large numbers to meet the person who officiates every morning on RTL, and to have their photo taken with him.
