Cinema: Michael Douglas guest of honor at the Deauville festival: News

American actor and producer Michael Douglas will be the guest of honor at the 50th edition of the Deauville American Film Festival, which will be held from September 6 to 15, organizers announced Thursday.

“Everyone says that the Deauville Festival is special, but few people can say like me that it changed their lives,” declared Michael Douglas a few years ago, who will honor the festival with his presence for the fifth time. He even met his wife there, the actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, in 1998.

Eleven years after his last participation in “My Life with Liberace” by Steven Soderbergh, “while the American Film Festival celebrates its 50th anniversary, Michael Douglas had to return to set foot on Normandy soil a fifth time to recall what the name Douglas brought to the 7th art”, underline the organizers.

In 2020, the actor also went to the festival but this time to honor the memory of his father, Kirk Douglas (1916-2020).

“As he so well recalled” then, “when the memory of his father Kirk, the last legend of the golden age of Hollywood who had died a few months earlier, was celebrated in Deauville, the name +Douglas+ had a profound impact the spirits of the Norman city” where several places bear his name, recall the organizers.
