Inaugurated 113 years ago, the Nice Digne-les-Bains line will be modernized. The South Region is investing 130 million euros to renovate this line. The president of the Paca region, Renaud Muselier and the President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis announced it on Thursday June 27, 2024 at Plan du Var station.

This modernization plan provides for the commissioning of eight new hybrid trains by the end of 2027.”The challenge with these new trains is to have wifi, air conditioning, comfort and above all punctuality” explains Renaud Muselier, president of the Southern Regions.

Furthermore, two Chemins de Provence stations in the Alpes-Maritimes will soon be renovated, those of Puget-Théniers and that of Nice.

Many inhabitants of the Var plain use the Pignes train to get to work in Nice. Since July 2023, Lignes d’Azur subscribers can take the Pignes train for less than five euros by simply presenting their metropolitan transport ticket. Ridership on this line has jumped 30% on this metropolitan section in less than a year.

Given this success, we presented with Renaud Muselier a plan to modernize this line, to serve metropolitan residents and residents of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. Starting next week, we will extend the offer to weekday evenings with 4 additional return trips, i.e. additional trains from Monday to Saturday.” declares Christian Estrosi, president of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis.
