Claude Julien is back behind a National Hockey League (NHL) bench. The 64-year-old was given a role as assistant coach with the Saint Louis Blues on Thursday.

Blues president of hockey operations and general manager Doug Armstrong announced that Julien is joining head coach Drew Bannister’s staff. Julien spent the last two seasons in a scouting role in St. Louis.

Julien, who won the Stanley Cup with the Boston Bruins in 2011, guided the Canadian team to the Beijing Olympic Games in 2022, after a second stay at the helm of the Montreal Canadiens, from 2017 to 2021.

The Blues also promoted Steve Ott to associate coach and extended his agreement until the conclusion of the 2025-2026 season. Ott will enter his eighth campaign with the Missouri organization.

Assistant coach Mike Weber and goalie instructor David Alexander also received contract extensions through 2025-26.
