Orvault Plaisance: the global renovation project in the starting blocks

« What will this improve for us? », is written on a Post-it affixed to one of the presentation panels of the overall Orvault Plaisance project displayed in the park on the occasion of the public meeting proposed this Wednesday, June 26. Plaisance, a large district of some 850 housing units and 2,500 inhabitants, built in the early 1960s, on the western edge of Saint-Herblain and Nantes, is beginning its renovation, an urban project worth around 60 million euros. On the program, carried out in partnership between the City of Orvault, Nantes Métropole, the social landlord Atlantique habitations, and State services: renovation and rehabilitation of buildings, construction of a neighborhood house, an independent residence , a nursery, redevelopment of roads, public spaces and the park.

Improve the living environment of residents

« Our objectives are to improve the living environment of residents, to combat all forms of incivility, and to promote social ties by involving all residents. », Explains Jean-Sébastien Guitton, the mayor of Orvault and vice-president of Nantes Métropole. “ Our aim is to provide more services and equipment, and to maintain and develop local businesses. “, adds Lionel Audion, municipal councilor of Orvault, deputy for urban policy and public peace.
« Can we consider building a paddling pool for children in the park? », asks a participant. “The redevelopment of the park, the heart of the neighborhood, a magnificent but aging green space, is one of the major objectives of the project. It will be done in consultation with residents, users, a consultation work which will begin next fall », specifies Lionel Audion.

Roads, housing and local facilities

On the road side, Boulevard de Chasteland, the district’s central artery, will be significantly redesigned to limit speed and provide more space for bicycles and pedestrians. The current Thouet impasse will open up to become an alley, a space for “peaceful” travel shared between cars, bicycles and pedestrians.
Emblematic of the district, the imposing Penfeld building and its 171 social housing units will be rehabilitated, starting at the end of this year, with the completion of exterior thermal insulation work and the transformation of the balconies into large terraces. “ An investment of 15 million euros “, explains Vincent Biraud, general manager of the social landlord, Atlantique habitations, partner of the global project. An Atlantique habitations agency, “ with around thirty people », will be installed in the building also housing the future independent residence of 42 housing units and 33 additional housing units for owner-occupiers, accessible via the real and joint lease system (BRS).
The community center, costing 6.5 million euros, which is due to open ” early 2028, will bring together the socio-cultural center, a media library, a recycling center, associative spaces, a youth space. It is a neighborhood that continues to rejuvenate ” concludes Jean-Sébastien Guitton.
