This Thursday, June 27, a 33-year-old West Indian man was tried immediately before the Carcassonne court, to answer for violence by a spouse and repeated sending of malicious messages. The events took place from September 6, 2023 to May 5, 2024 in Quillan.
Incarcerated since June 6, for the execution of a four-month prison sentence as part of the revocation of a probationary suspension, it was under the escort of prison officers that Jordan arrived at the bar of Carcassonne criminal court, this Thursday afternoon. A native of Abymes (Guadeloupe), this 36-year-old man presents and expresses himself well. Prosecuted for three acts of violence by a spouse in Quillan, on September 6, 2023, as well as on February 19 and May 5, 2024, the defendant contests the facts as recounted by his partner. The two have been dating for four years, and have a 20-month-old daughter.

On May 5, the accused declared that there was a certain Saïd who was present that day. But unfortunately this one could never be heard: “I didn’t hit her. The machete they found during the search was for the sheep on Eid. I didn’t hit her, but just pushed her. Afterwards, everyone left on his side.” According to the complainant, Jordan pushed her while she had her child in her arms, pulled by the hair and thrown onto the sofa, where he hit her on the hips with the flip flop he had in his hand. The day after these events, the lady left with her daughter to take refuge with her parents in Brittany. It was there that she filed a complaint on May 8, with a medical certificate attesting to five days of ITT.
Regarding the acts of violence without ITT that he is accused of on February 19, the defendant admits having given “an involuntary nudge. There is no more, no less”. Listening to Jordan, it was his partner who turned the situation around in order to harm him: “There are a lot of things she says that aren’t true!” For the events of September 6, 2023, we are still in an argument where the lady will hurt her calf by backing up on a piece of wood. The medical certificate speaks of bruises on the neck and arm… Just after the events of May 5, and for three days, there were also malicious messages sent by the defendant to the mother of his daughter. She responded on her side. The exchanges are flowery, sometimes threatening. “It was nerve wracking!”he explained.
A relationship which continues despite the prohibitions set by the courts”
From the personality of the accused, we discover that he was under a probationary suspension during the commission of the facts, with the ban on coming into contact with his partner. His criminal record includes eight convictions, including four for acts related to violence. There, he is in a recidivism state. In the interests of the complainant and her daughter, Me Céline Colombo would have “I loved that the defendant recognized what he was there for! The facts are established, with a girl who is an indirect victim because she was in her mother’s arms”. The sum of €800 was requested for the damage suffered by the complainant, and €1 for the child.
At the public prosecutor’s office, prosecutor Agathe Charriau mentioned “a toxic relationship between the two”. But also “a relationship which continues despite the prohibitions and obligations set by the courts”. The sentence of thirty months in prison, eight of which were suspended for two years, was thus requested. In defense, Me Jean-Christophe Marti pleaded “with a bitter taste”, after being refused additional information by the court, then a referral. For the Carcassonne lawyer, “there are elements that are not very clear in this file. There are no witnesses or material elements, nor medical certificate attesting to the injuries she says she suffered…” After deliberating, the court finally acquitted Jordan of the violence of September 6, but sentenced him to eight months in prison with continued detention.
