It is only its fourth edition which will take place on the weekend of July 6 and 7, but the Festoye du Mansuy is already one of the highlights of the Deodatian summer… and an event that shines well beyond Deodatia.

For this fourth episode, the Rapière Déodatienne wanted to offer an even richer and denser program than last year, still involving numerous partners such as the Première Compagnie d’Arc de Saint-Dié-des-Vosges.

The large medieval market will bring together around fifty exhibitors, around ten more than last year, with various shops, crafts and tattoos. “We continued to favor local, quality artisans” underline Sébastien Florent and Carole Giles, respectively president and treasurer of the Rapière Déodatienne.

Historical reenactment camps will still be set up throughout the weekend, as will the traveling farm and Deodatian historical and cultural associations. On site and as in previous editions, visitors will be able to learn show fencing or archery. New this year, they will also be able to throw… axes!

In another register, the Freedom Tower will host a book fair. The opportunity to meet authors, publishers and booksellers, to participate in a calligraphy workshop and to meet a Grain D’sel. The latter, who put himself in the shoes of a Middle Ages pilgrim, tirelessly walks the Route des Châteaux Forts d’Alsace.

In terms of entertainment, it will be practically impossible to be bored during this fourth Festoye du Mansuy: conference at La Boussole, wanderings of dragons, giant Felfes and troubadours, pony rides, sword games for children, demonstrations blacksmithing, fights in costume and armor, concerts by the Ensemble Obsidienne at La Boussole and the folk metal group Fenrir at the Espace François-Mitterrand, a fire show to end Saturday’s day in style… without, of course, forgetting the medieval restaurant and the refreshment bar. As a prologue, the cult film “The Name of the Rose”, with Sean Connery, will be screened at the Excelsior cinema in a 4K remastered version.

Please note that the festivities will take place mainly in the part of Jean-Mansuy Park located on the Meurthe side, and no longer opposite the Town Hall. A decision taken following the extreme heat last year. Access to the site will now be via the torithe Japanese gate accessible via rue Jean-Jacques Baligan.

In short and summary, this vintage of the Festoye du Mansuy promises to be unmissable as long as you are at all interested in the medieval era. Entrance is set at €2, knowing that a “vip pass” is offered at €12, which includes entry to the Fenrir concert and the 2 days of the medieval festival.
