Develop cycling, make the roads safer, reopen the Auch-Agen line… The ideas of Gers candidates in the legislative elections for mobility

the essential
The Cycloconsommateurs association, an association promoting soft mobility, questioned the candidates for the anticipated legislative elections on their vision of mobility in the department. Overview.

Mobility issues are very important in a rural area. What about trains, infrastructure maintenance, the development of soft mobility, etc.? The Gers association Les Cycloconsommateurs, member of the French Federation of Bicycle Users, questioned the candidates for the legislative elections on their vision of mobility in the department. “The Gersois travel every day, by car, by train, by bus, by bike. It is a major subject of our territory, it seemed important to us to know the positions of each one”, explains Cyril Cointre, secretary of the ‘association.

1st district

Jean-René Cazeneuve (ENS), outgoing deputy for the 1st constituency, wants to emphasize “opening up the territory to allow its economic development”. Open up the territory therefore, by road with the end of the RN124 construction site, but also by investing in the RN21, for example with a bypass of Auch. Thinking about reopening the Auch-Agen railway line, developing the Auch-Toulouse line, as many avenues as the candidate puts on the table. In addition, it is committed to developing more efficient and cleaner everyday transport to meet the climate challenge.

Jean-Luc Yelma and Alice Cendré, the National Rally (RN) candidates in the two constituencies of Gers, want to improve road safety. “We need to speed up road safety in order to be able to travel safely and continue to develop cycle paths,” the candidates argue. The idea of developing soft mobility, by imagining a long-term rental service for electrically assisted bicycles, is also being put forward.

Ludovic Larré (Movement for Animals), for his part, wants to continue the effort already started by the department on cycle paths, promote carpooling and improve the transport network. The candidate is even thinking of setting up social pricing, or even free services to “make services accessible to all citizens”.

2nd district

Alexis Boudaud Anduaga (Ecologists) wants to improve the quality of life. To do this, we must “modernize transport infrastructure, particularly railway infrastructure with the reopening of the Agen Auch line”. The environmentalist wants a major plan to secure the roads of Gers in order to “reduce the number of accidents as well as the resulting injuries and deaths”.

David Taupiac, candidate for re-election in the 2nd district, pleads for mobility laws which “must integrate the rural environment”. He wants, among other things, to “strengthen aid for the purchase of bicycles and electric vehicles”, develop the network of rural paths to encourage cycling, or even “create a single and incentive pricing for the train on a scale national”, inspired by the German model.
