Legislative elections in the 2nd constituency of Var: Can Laure Lavalette (RN) lose her seat as deputy?

The RN in a position of strength

Several elements allow Laure Lavalette, the outgoing MP, to display full confidence on the eve of putting her mandate as MP back into play. First, two years ago, she won quite comfortably (51.64%) against Ange Musso, mayor of Revest, candidate of the presidential majority and supported by all the mayors of the district.

A constituency which also confirmed its penchant for the RN during the last European elections. Jordan Bardella’s party, in fact, garnered 53% of the votes on June 9. “And for two years, above all, I’ve been doing the job.”, she believes. In short, the lights seem green for the candidate. Especially since she chose a substitute with a view to bringing together a larger group. It is in fact Julien Argento, his former LR opponent in 2022, who is campaigning alongside him. No member of the Republicans is running in the constituency.

Who in the 2nd round?

If the highly publicized spokesperson for the National Rally should probably qualify for the second round, the identity (and party) of her opponent is more uncertain. This could be played out between Josy Chambon (presidential majority / Horizons) and Isaline Cornil (New Popular Front). The first, deputy of Josée Massi mayor of Toulon, benefits from certain local support. A large part of the municipal majority, like Senator Michel Bonnus, never stops praising a woman.pugnacious”,human” and at “strong character.” As for the second, a Spanish teacher, already a candidate in 2022, she wants to learn the lesson of her first campaign. The LFI candidate is banking on the field to make herself known, but above all to defend a program that does not include “only concrete and immediate measures to improve the lives of the French.” Both make the RN their main adversary. The other candidates should, in all likelihood, not really influence the result… However, it remains to be seen who will vote for them on July 7.

Call for mobilization

The key to this election (as is often the case) is undoubtedly the abstainers who have it. And the left intends to go get them. “We want to convince them. This is why, in this campaign, we are increasing door-to-door visits, particularly in the neighborhoods.”, underlines Isaline Cornil. On the Josy Chambon side, we travel through the district between a market in Solliès-Pont or Ollioules, the Music Festival in Toulon…

For Laure Lavalette, “all votes count. And we know well that when we have high polls, there is a risk of demobilization. We will not fall into this pitfall.”

Laure Lavalette, National Rally

The idea of a new election campaign gives him wings.”I love this moment, I go from festival to market, the welcome is great! Frankly, I have never seen so much enthusiasm and yet I have been in politics for a long time!” Laure Lavalette, 48 years old, keeps repeating the themes “purchasing power”of migratory management” et “of the security turning point” to convince the electorate to vote for National Rally. “In any case, we feel on the pitch all the hope that Jordan Bardella arouses.”

She is also counting on the results of her two years in office. “What I remember above all is having moved forward on local issues, particularly on disability and health. I was also spokesperson for the parliamentary group, it’s quite an experience.”

Alternate: Julien Argento.
