It was a year ago today. On June 27, 2023, young Nahel, 17, was killed by a police officer after refusing to comply at the Picasso estate in Nanterre, in Hauts-de-Seine. The video went viral on social networks and neighborhoods then burst into flames in France.

“Nahel? We didn’t get a real answer”

Today the police officer is free under judicial supervision. Our journalist Clément Arion went to the scene of the tragedy and was able to obtain the exclusive testimony of a friend of Nahel.

There, in the heart of the Picasso city, numerous tags adorn the walls reading “Justice for Nahel”. And then there is also this fresco as a tribute. Mohessine is a friend of the killed teenager and he explains himself on Sud Radio.

“We didn’t have a real answer to what happened. And the only answer I found was to make a fresco where we show a dove symbolizing peace and the burned cars, the result of the revolts The Police are there to protect us but who is there to protect us from them? he asks himself.

“Since then, things have been going really badly”

Emotions are still very strong in the neighborhood. This drama comes up a lot in young people’s discussions. “What can you call it? A murder? But it’s more than a murder, it’s an assassination.”

Over the past year, tensions with the police have increased. “We have to live it. Sometimes, they control us on the fresco. Since then, things have been going really badly. They want revenge on the fact that there were revolts, that we will have to calm down. They mix All”.

At the time, a kitty was launched in support of the family of the police officer who shot them. It collected 1.6 million euros. Mohessine is still in shock. At the request of her mother, a silent march in memory of Nahel will take place this Saturday, June 29.
