SENEGAL-LEGISLATIVES-SUPERVISION / CEMAC electoral observation missions welcome the “smooth running” of Sunday’s vote – Senegalese Press Agency

Dakar, Nov 19 (APS) – The electoral observation missions of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) welcomed, on Tuesday, the smooth running of Sunday’s early legislative elections in Senegal.

“The voting operations took place in calm, serenity and tranquility. The voters went out to fulfill their civic duty in discipline and a good atmosphere,” underlined Jules Njawe, head of the observation mission of electoral experts from the CEMAC zone.

Speaking after reading the preliminary statement from the coordination of African electoral experts, he welcomed that “the voting materials were of good quality and in sufficient quantity”, adding that most polling stations “were open on time”, in accordance with the country’s Electoral Code.

“Despite the anticipated nature of this election, the Senegalese people and their government have just demonstrated and confirmed to the world the political maturity of the country,” for his part underlined Jean-Marie Ngondjibangangte, an electoral expert from Cameroon.

He recalled that the CEMAC electoral observation missions had gone to Kaolack, Fatick, Mbour, Ndiaganiao, Matam, Ziguinchor, Dakar and Thiès on election day in order to inquire about the progress of the elections.

“The operations of counting the votes and compiling the results took place in the presence of members of the polling stations, representatives of the candidates and observers,” noted Blaise Badom, dispatched by the Observatory of Young Leaders for violence and peace.

He highlighted the fact that “no incident likely to disrupt free movement or prevent a candidate from campaigning has been observed, except for a few clashes which were noted in the localities of Koungheul, Saint-Louis, and Matam” .

The electoral observation missions in Central Africa have each promised to produce a final report on the early legislative elections last Sunday, we learned during the restitution ceremony.
