A worrying scene unfolded Monday night in Philadelphia, as the referee Mitch Dunning had to be evacuated on a stretcher after a collision with Josh MansonAvalanche player.
The incident occurred early in the first period, when Manson was skating alone on the ice and accidentally collided with Dunning. The referee collapsed and lay on the ground for several minutes. He could be seen moving his feet and his right hand, while Manson approached to exchange a few words with him.
Play was suspended at 13:37 of the first period while medical personnel arrived to treat the official.
Initial reports suggested that Dunning suffered a back injury as a result of the collision and by the time he was in hospital there was already encouraging news that he was not in danger.
Today we learn viainsider Frank Seravalli that Dunning is back home and will be resting, but all is well. He did not suffer any significant injuries.
