“OWe wonder what it is, and it’s not reassuring!” This Pointe Croisette resident is worried, like many others: for several months, a pond surrounded by riprap has bloomed in the public parking lot of Palm Beach. “There is a pipe from which blackish water flows, which passes into the sea. We honestly don’t want to swim near it!” alert this resident.

“Where does this water come from?” asks another.

Several of them point to the titanic Palm Beach construction site, which has been going on for several years and whose complex is gradually opening in recent weeks. “If they dump their sewage into the sea, it’s simply scandalous!”

“No risk of pollution”

Contacted, the Cannes Pays de Lérins agglomeration, which is following the matter closely, ensures “that it concerns the evacuation of rainwater. There is no risk of pollution, the water readings are clear.”

In addition to the analyzes carried out, the CACPL teams also carried out disinfestation of the pool in order to combat the proliferation of mosquitoes in the area.

“The riprap was indeed requested by the State services as part of the building permit, in order to evacuate rainwater from our land”, confirms the direction of the Palm Beach.

“It was put in place to prevent the drain pipe from being blocked by algae.”

However, it seems that the riprap created is not permeable enough and does not allow a flow back towards the sea, resulting in this stagnant water which is stagnating…

“The rocks used to create this structure are perhaps too small and have become intertwined. In the coming days, we will pump the water. If the sea does not enter the basin, we will create a breach so that the reflux occurs more easily.”
