“I don’t flash on anything”
Caroline, a mother, has also turned her back on traditional sales. “I’m more of a fan of private sales. I don’t go to the sales anymore because I don’t really like anything. On the other hand, there are some good deals to know about. As a mother, I really like going to Claire’s. For the kids, it’s bliss,” she explains. Despite posters promising reductions of up to 60%, the impact remains limited. “We do a lot of private sales, so there is no real difference between yesterday and today. Our customers are quite loyal all year round,” admits a local jeweler. This loyalty throughout the year reduces the appeal of sales for customers accustomed to regular discounts.
However, despite the criticism, the Toulouse residents were there for this first day of sales. “Since this morning, it hasn’t stopped. People parade. They don’t all have big baskets, but everyone leaves with a little top or something like that. It’s really fire,” testifies Samira, saleswoman at Primark, busy folding a mountain of clothes.
