It took three days for emergency services to find his body. On the night of June 12 to 13, 2021, Houssin Ouhaj was voluntarily thrown into the Rhône in Lyon. A group of four drunken individuals knocked him off the railing of the Guillotière bridge. The young Moroccan, who did not know how to swim, drowned.

Three years after the events, two men will be tried this Thursday and Friday before the departmental criminal court for “failure to assist a person in danger” and “fatal assault”.

Coming from Oyonnax in Ain, the four friends were quite tipsy that evening. Results: two bottles of vodka and one of whiskey dropped into the street, four bottles of wine fell in the restaurant. Without forgetting the glasses of digestive.

“He took for others”

Around 2 a.m., they were attacked by several individuals near the Pont Wilson on the banks of the Rhône. What is the link with Houssin Oujah? None. The victim was not involved in the fight, nor even present at the time of the incident. “He took for others,” says Isabelle Nabucet, the lawyer for the deceased’s family at the Progress. Because a few minutes later, the group of friends, ready to fight, sealed their fate. The strongest one grabbed him and threw him into the river. The others didn’t flinch. Then, they left the scene quietly, without even looking back.

The main suspect has always denied having intended to kill the young Moroccan. He thought he knew how to swim and could have made it back to shore. This is still the version he will support at the hearing.
