Samuel Cueto, the photographer of the suburbs, of the forgotten, of those left behind, returns to Genouillé for a discovery of the rural world. The comments collected during the first two years (Kneeling in black and white in 2022 and Kneeling takes color in 2023) say a lot about the emotions encountered. This third outdoor exhibition, on the grounds of La Fontaine, in the center of the town, allows you to discover new portraits of the inhabitants.

Samuel Cueto was able to gain the trust of the residents

The photographer, an atypical character, has over time gained the trust of the inhabitants of Genouillé. This year, Samuel Cueto is taking a different path, always around photography. Twenty-nine residents, chosen because they were the oldest in the town, agreed to tell their stories through anecdotes, slices of life and to put themselves on stage.

A book in preparation

Samuel Cueto captured funny, touching, offbeat moments. The stories that are delivered tell the story of Genouillé: the exodus and return to retirement, agricultural developments, local cuisine, life and encounters… A book is in preparation. It will take photos from these three years and the stories of the inhabitants of Genouillé.

The exhibition is on view until September 22.

Mayor Jean Guy Valette, during the opening of the exhibition on Saturday June 22, praised the mobilization capacity of deputy Philippe Chauveau, Samuel Cuéto’s accomplice for this trilogy in images which is coming to an end. There is no doubt that there will be many visitors strolling through the grounds of La Fontaine, a living space where the portraits will be visible until September 22.
