Alès sets up secure bicycle lockers in its city center

Six secure lockers, offering a total of 30 parking spaces, are available on busy streets and squares in the city.

It’s been a few days since they appeared, arousing the curiosity of some passers-by. Their operation was presented this Wednesday, June 26 by some of the elected officials of Alès.

Spread across five strategic locations (Places Barbusse, Gabriel-Péri, Place des Martyrs-de-la-Résistance, Avenue Carnot, Hôtel de Ville), six secure lockers are now available to cyclists wanting to park their bikes without fearing the risk of theft. “This allows bicycle users to finally be able to use their own bikes with peace of mind”rejoiced the first deputy Christophe Rivenq.

Free for four hours

These storage spaces, suitable for storing most bicycles, open on request, via a touch screen, with use of a bank card equipped with contactless payment. Their use is free for the first four hours, “which leaves the possibility of going shopping or going to a restaurant or the cinema”. The price then increases to €1 for 24 hours. Then at €10 per additional day, this is to prevent “some people from using them as personal garages”. After five days, the bike can be collected by Ales’y services.

In total, these lockers offer a total of 30 bicycle spaces. The City has also installed new secure arches in its underground car parks (Maréchale, Centr’Alès, Place des Martyrs). The latter, free of charge, are accessible to all, via the main entrances to the car parks.
