In the premises of the Pau association and painting workshop Le Seuil de l’art, it was time for an end-of-season review, Saturday June 15. And, more particularly, the time to take stock of the introductory painting program From Tablet to Brushes intended for students.
The idea, launched in 2021 at the initiative of Antoine Reynal, the president of the association, followed the period of isolation due to Covid and which had revealed unease within the student community. Coming to fruition in fall 2023, the program brought together 22 learners who followed two hours of free lessons every Saturday morning, or 20 sessions from October to June.
Ten students per session
Open to all students regardless of their course, the majority of students in art history and literature have attended the courses, with varying degrees of attendance. “Some tried it, but didn’t stick with it,” admits the president, who is nevertheless pleased with the attendance rate which has often been at its maximum capacity of 10 students per session.
Accompanied in their introduction to painting by their teacher, Florent Bordinat, a graduate of the Beaux-Arts of Pau and Tours, the association also welcomed young people from the Habitat Jeunes Pau Pyrénées association, which is also a partner in financing the ‘operation. Also financially supported by the Casino de Pau and the Crous de Bordeaux, the association declared of general interest is also sponsored by two private partners, the company Clède and the accounting firm Exas Consultant.
At the end of April, an exhibition at the Persévérance chapel in Pau allowed some students to exhibit their paintings, installed with those of Seuil de l’art members. For this, the results are also satisfactory with around thirty members and balanced finances. The renewal of the From Tablet to Brushes program will be examined at the start of the school year, with a possible start in January 2025.
