She blocks the fugitive

Six convictions, already all for driving under drugs or alcohol, appear in the defendant’s record, who did not appear in court this Wednesday to answer for his behavior, and did not give power to a lawyer to do so. defend.

The victim is present and explains: “I was off work for six weeks, due to bruising and the displacement of six vertebrae. I had to catch up with him because he didn’t stop, as if he didn’t realize he had hit me violently. He seemed haggard, unaware of the accident. He was eating a kebab while driving. I then decided to call the police because I realized that it was impossible to talk to him and that he smelled very strongly of alcohol. I’m a delivery person so I’m often on the road, but I’ve never had an accident yet. Now I’m afraid when I get behind the wheel. »

Her lawyer, Me Benoit Martin, is asking for €2,000 in damages and specifies: “She had to block this driver with her own delivery vehicle so that he did not flee. Then he was aggressive, to the point that she had to call a work colleague to calm down this offending man. It’s scary to see such a driver on the road. »

“Almighty at the wheel”

The prosecutor, Perrine Giraudeau, agrees: “This is unacceptable behavior, as evidenced by his record, his attitude during the accident and his absence in court. He felt all-powerful behind the wheel, without realizing that he was dangerous on the road, taking risks for himself and others, without realizing that he had committed an accident. His reflexes were impaired by his double consumption. If the victim had not blocked him, he would also have had to answer for a hit-and-run. »And to ask for a sentence of six months in prison, a fine of €600 and a suspension of his license for one year.

The court found him guilty, speaking of “irresponsible behavior” and increased the sentence, imposing seven months in prison, a suspension of his license for one year and the obligation to pay the victim the sum of €2,000 for his damages.
