He had been driving without a license since 2009: seven months in prison for the Vannes resident

“I bought this 125cc scooter a year ago, but it needed repairs. That day, I wanted to try it when I came across this police check. Usually to go to work I rode a 50 cc scooter that did not require a license. Because my license was canceled in 2009 and I have never taken it again since.” Defending himself without a lawyer, this 43-year-old mason from Vannes is a regular in court since sixteen convictions appear on his record, notably for several repeat driving offenses without a license. The last one dates back to 2021, again for driving without a license, still canceled. Which made the president of the court say: “You don’t seem to understand what a ban is.”

His scooter confiscated

While the police were carrying out checks in Vannes on January 5, 2024 in the middle of the afternoon, they arrested this man riding a 125 cc scooter. He was unable to present either a license or insurance and claimed that this two-wheeler could not be seized because he had just sold it that morning, without providing any proof. The vehicle was then impounded.

According to the prosecutor, “He has been driving for fifteen years without any driving license. Furthermore, he maintains that this scooter had been sold when he was arrested, but no official document attests to this sale. In view of his heavily loaded record, even if it is inserted, I ask for seven months in prison, confiscation of the scooter and a fine of €700 because he does not respect the law.

The defendant replies: “I have a job and children, I prefer day fines to imprisonment”. But the court sentenced the culprit to seven months in prison, confiscation of the scooter and a fine of €500 for the lack of insurance.
