9 months suspension for Tsarukyan

Arman Tsarukyan will have to wait before making his return to the octagon. This Tuesday, June 25, the Armenian was sanctioned by the Nevada State Athletic Commission: 9 months of suspension, or 6 if the fighter agrees to make a video against harassment on his social networks, and 25,000 euros fine.

As a reminder, Tsarukyan threw himself at a fan during his entrance to UFC 300, before being caught by security. An incident to which he reacted after his victory against Oliveira: “He gave me the finger and wanted to hit me and I wanted to hit him back. That’s all. So guys, no one gives me the finger. No matter who you are, I’ll punch you in the face. You can give me the finger at 200m, I’m not going to hit you. But when you’re near me, no. Don’t do this, please, or I’ll go to jail in the United States“.

Title fight delayed?

With this suspension, Arman Tsarukyan will be cleared to fight again from January 13, 2025. Or to Wednesday-October 2024 if he decides to produce the harassment awareness video which could allow him to reduce his sanction by 3 months.

A real blow for the athlete. Indeed, with his victory against Oliveira at UFC 300, Tsarukyan had positioned himself as a belt contender lightweight owned by Islam Makhachev. His sanction, especially if it remains for 9 months, could force the UFC to pit the champion against another fighter in the meantime. Enough to somewhat disrupt the organization’s short-term plans.
