1000 kg of nectarines were distributed by the “Open Table” association, in a poor district of Nîmes. The fruits were donated by a Gard arborist.
“At the price of fruit, it’s great!” exclaims Pascal. Like other residents of the Richelieu-Gambetta district, in Nîmes, he benefits from free distribution of nectarines. “We can’t afford it, so we’re going to take advantage of it.”
Once a week, throughout the summer, the “Table Ouverte” association distributes fruit and vegetables in six disadvantaged neighborhoods of Nîmes. In the Richelieu-Gambetta district, the poverty rate reaches 40%.

Valérie lives on 550 euros per month. “Where can we save money? On food!”she laments.
“Generosity, fraternity”: the motto of this association takes on its full meaning in a tense political context. “It is not possible that we hear today about land law, preferably national, regrets Pietro Truddaiu, the president of the Open Table association. We see people every day who come to us asking for food, we have never made any difference, whatever the color of their skin, their religion.”
Salvatore Zoroddu gives 80 tonnes of nectarines every year.

The ton of nectarines distributed comes from orchards in Jonquières-Saint-Vincent, in the Gard. Rather than throwing away, Salvatore Zoroddu prefers to give 80 tons to associations each year.
The arboriculturist draws this commitment from his family history. “I remember where I come from and where my family comes from. Son of immigrants, large family, small income. There are things we don’t forget.”
These fruits benefited 1,600 people last year. A figure that is constantly increasing, due to inflation.
