Weather report. When will the heatwave end?

The heat is setting in in Morocco. This weekend alone, the mercury rose to 42°C. From Saïss to the Oulmès region, via the phosphate plateaus, few areas escape the rise in mercury. However, a gradual drop in temperatures is expected this week.

According to the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM), “during this last weekend, temperatures increased in the Center, the interior plains, the east and the south-east of the country, with hot weather on the plains of Tadla, Rhamna, the phosphate plateaus, the southeast and the extreme south of the country, Saïss, Oulmès with temperatures between 37 and 42°C».

A normal rise in temperatures

This typically summer heat peak is due to the Chergui wind. According to the DGM, “this increase in temperatures is normal during this summer period, knowing that in recent weeks, the northern regions of Morocco have experienced relatively low temperatures compared to the monthly average for June which is generally hot in most areas. regions of the Kingdom».

Today, although temperatures remain high, with maximums oscillating between 37 and 43°C in regions such as Saïss, Oriental and the south of the Rif, a gradual decline is expected. This decrease will be more marked during the week and should bring temperatures back towards their seasonal norms, although the south-east and the far south of the country will remain relatively warm.

The DGM also forecasts clouds in coastal regions and on the northern and lower central Atlantic plains with local drizzle. So, hold on, put away your fans and prepare for less harsh weather. After all, who doesn’t like a little coolness after scorching temperatures?
