In this commune of Yvelines, two schools will close in 2025

The Rimbaud and Verlaine schools in Montigny-le-Bretonneux (Yvelines) will close in July 2025.

Faced with a constant decline in nursery and elementary school numbers in the city, the municipality has chosen to close these two schools located respectively in the Saint-Quentin and Sourderie districts.

A decision announced to parents

“It turned out that in Saint-Quentin and Sourderie, the density of nursery and elementary schools is such that by closing an establishment in each of these neighborhoods, the other nearby schools are sized to accommodate the children of the sector and potential newcomers. »

The decision was announced on June 10, 11 and 12 to teachers, parents, neighborhood councils and municipal officials.

“We are well aware that this decision is difficult, recognizes the mayor. But it is necessary to strengthen the numbers of all the schools in the two districts and pool our financial and technical resources to welcome all the students concerned in their new establishment in good conditions. »

The new sectorization voted at the end of 2024

For several years, Montigny-le-Bretonneux has had to face class closures. “Rather than suffer, we made the choice to anticipate and to work together to transform this constraint into educational added value,” specifies Yannick Le Dorze, deputy mayor in charge of schools.

The new sectorization will be voted on by the municipal council during the last quarter of 2024. In the meantime, the City will work from the start of the 2024 school year with the schools concerned to support the transition to the new schools.

This decision follows the “education conference” launched at the start of 2023. This consultation process made it possible, through workshops, to discuss the overhaul of the City’s educational policy. A restitution meeting of these meetings will be held this Thursday, July 4, at 7:30 p.m., in the Jacques-Brel room.
