Words of great violence. This Monday, a 27-year-old man tried at the Paris criminal court for having threatened to kill the principal of the Maurice Ravel high school (20th arrondissement) was sentenced to a sixty-day fine, or 600 euros, and to an internship obligation. of five days of citizenship and to compensate his victim to the tune of 3,000 euros.
On February 28, 2024, a student accused the principal of hitting her for refusing to remove her veil. An accusation which ignited social networks to the point that numerous hate messages abounded on the Internet. An Internet user, the defendant, wrote on X: “It’s crazy. You have to burn him alive, this dog.”
“I deeply regret and ask for forgiveness”
“I deeply regret and I ask for forgiveness,” the Internet user declared in court during his trial in October.
“I heard his excuses again, that’s good, and he was convicted, so that’s good too,” reacted Philippe Le Guillou, the principal, now retired and present at the judgment. “Each trial brings everything back to the table so it’s not easy to live with,” he added as he left the court.
For his part, his lawyer, Me Francis Lec, was more vindictive: “This is far too low a sentence.” He added that he hoped that the prosecution would appeal.
These 60 day fines, totaling 600 euros, can be worth days in prison if the convicted person fails to pay them. No mention will be made of his criminal record.
In mid-March, another man arrested as part of this investigation was released in Lisieux (Calvados), but the prosecution appealed. In November, the public prosecutor requested a ten-month suspended prison sentence for a third man tried in Bourg-en-Bresse (Ain). The decision will be made on November 28.
