In Senegal, the Takku Wallu coalition, led by former president Macky Sall, triumphed in the early legislative elections of November 17. According to the partial results of the Departmental Vote Census Commissions (CDRV), she won in five constituencies out of fifty-four.
The coalition won in the departments of Goudiry, Kanel, Matam and Ranérou, as well as in the Central African diaspora constituency, winning all of the eight available seats. Macky Sall, at the head of the Alliance for the Republic, his party, and the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS), could thus sit in the National Assembly through proportional representation.
According to projections, Takku Wallu could obtain around ten additional seats via the proportional vote, bringing its total to more than fifteen deputies with those obtained by the majority vote. The Senegalese National Assembly has 165 seats, of which 112 are allocated directly by majority vote and 53 by proportional representation. The prospect of seeing Macky Sall sit in the Assembly, which he led in 2007-2008, arouses surprise among many observers.
Macky Sall congratulated the Pastef Coalition on its victory in the legislative elections, as indicated in his message on Facebook, without revealing his future political plans after the election. Another notable result, the Jamm ak Njarign list, led by former Prime Minister Amadou Bâ, won the department of Podor, while And Nawlé conquered Gossas.
The presidential party, Pastef, led by Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, managed to win in all the other constituencies. The National Votes Census Commission will begin announcing the provisional results on Wednesday. The vote, characterized by a participation of almost 50%, took place peacefully according to observers. Around 7.3 million voters were contacted after the dissolution of the Assembly on September 12 by President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye.
