From Vitry-sur-Seine to Montreuil, The Metropolitan in Olympic form!

Remember: The Metropolitan began on May 4, officially launched during a memorable inauguration day at the Manufacture de Sèvres, and will continue until September in no less than 13 municipalities in Île-de-France. Over the weeks, Beaux Arts takes the time to present each place, each program to you, these being as varied as dance shows at Hangar Y (Meudon), expositions at Mains d’Œuvres (Saint-Ouen) or at MABA (Nogent-sur-Marne), a recreation Park entirely handmade by schoolchildren at the Ateliers Médicis (Clichy-sous-Bois), reinvented basketball games at Crédac (Ivry-sur-Seine)…

The common thread of La Métropolitaine? Her hot air balloon, which appeared during the inauguration and the highlight of Act II in Nogent sur Marne and which we will soon see flying again in the Ile-de-France air. In the meantime, this gives each place the opportunity to organize participatory workshopsduring which the public can get their hands dirty and create banners intended to be hung on the hot air balloon. The next workshops will take place on Sunday June 30 at MAC VAL (Vitry-sur-Seine), as well as July 5 and 6 at the Maison Populaire (Montreuil). We take this opportunity to discover their schedule of exhibitions and events!

At MAC VAL, prints and an unexpected match

You know about the Olympic Games, but have you ever heard of the “MAC VALympics”? The Vitry-sur-Seine institution is getting into sport by offering this program between expositions et performances. With in particular the collective hanging planned until July 14 “Trophies / too much done”a set of prints from the collection and brought together by the theme of the Olympic Games, which includes a specially commissioned work for the occasion to the artist Carole Benzaken (born in 1964) as well as an installation by the Argentine artist Marina de Caro (born in 1961), currently in residence at the museum.

Another important meeting, that of Sunday June 30: from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., the MAC VAL organizes a big “Pic Nic” with your neighborswhere he will invite players from the Ivry-sur-Seine Sports Union and the Entente sportif to seize the Tripple Dribble by Julia Borderie (born in 1989). This project, already presented at Crédac, consists of reinventing basketball by inviting players onto the field sculptures made by the artist ! After this event, Tripple Dribble will be discovered in depth during an exhibition organized here, from July 21 to September 22.

At the Maison Populaire, a feminist artist and a festival

Ellen Cantor, « If I Just Turn and Run », extrait du film1998

i

Then head to Montreuilwhere the Popular House offers unique insight in France on the fascinating Ellen Cantor (1961–2013). Commissioners Margaux Bonopera and Jean-Baptiste Carobolante are interested infeminist commitment of the American artist, through the bringing together of different drawings, paintings and sculptures, and above all thanks to the poignant autobiographical video If I Just Turn and Run (1998), in which the artist bares himself by recounting the most memorable memories of his life.

These same two commissioners imagined for Friday July 5 and Saturday July 6 the festival General Terroraround the question of the spectral in contemporary art. On the menu: the screening of the film Pinochet Porn (2008–2016) by Ellen Cantor, performances by the young artist Coraline Guilbeau (born in 1991), a “spectral music” concert orchestrated by scenographer Samuel Chochon, a round table between curators specializing in contemporary art… Good news : the whole thing is completely freeso see you in Act III, the weekend of July 6 and 7, for the centenary of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris 1924!
