The technological response continues. It is through a press release that the prefect of Haute-Garonne announced the use of drones in order to “fight against urban rodeos”, as of this Monday November 18 and until Wednesday December 18, 2024In several municipalities of Haute-Garonne.
The continued use of drones to combat urban rodeos
Indeed, an increase in urban rodeos is observed in the department, “having already caused accidents, several injuries and one death”, informs Pierre-André Durand. This situation fuels a “feeling of insecurity” among residents, road users and traders in the neighborhoods concerned. These behaviors, which involve the use of “non-approved vehicles, in disregard of the highway code”, also cause disturbances to public order, in particular “considerable noise pollution“.
These dangerous behaviors occur over very large areas, and the meeting places are often kept secret until the last minute by their organizers. Furthermore, the distances traveled can sometimes be significant. These different characteristics make it particularly difficult for law enforcement to prevent and repress this phenomenon of aggressive privatization of public space,” the press release announced.
Which areas are affected?
So, Pierre-André Durandprefect of the Occitanie region and prefect of Haute-Garonne, took the decision to extend the authorization for the use of drones in four municipalities of the departmentwhere the frequency of these events is high, from Monday November 18 at 12:00 a.m. until Wednesday December 18, 2024 at 11:59 p.m.
