Apple has just released the iOS 18.1.1 update. While the whole world already had its eyes on iOS 18.2, the release of which is still scheduled for sometime in December, the Apple brand released a temporary update, with improvements for the security of its users. .
The Cupertino company has notably added protections to vulnerabilities present in iOS which could have been used by cybercriminals to take control (total or partial) of your device. They mainly focus on a failure in HomeKit. Apple explains that this vulnerability was initially spotted and used under macOS. It has since been corrected.
Since the iPhone and iPad are built on a similar software system, Apple wanted to review this section of its operating system to limit risks as much as possible. The Apple brand recommends that all users update as quickly as possible.
Indeed, by revealing the protections put in place in iOS 18, Apple involuntarily puts its finger on old flaws in its software. Criminals then know the old weaknesses of iOS and can more easily attack devices that have not yet updated. It is therefore very important to make these updates as soon as they are released.
iOS 17.7.2: Apple forgets no one
Concerned not to leave users vulnerable, Apple has also published an update for devices that do not work with iOS 18. Thanks to the iOS 17.7.2 update, available for a few hours, it is possible to benefit from the same security protections as with iOS 18.1.1.
Here again, Apple recommends that users update as quickly as possible to limit the risk of cyberattack. It is important to note that these updates, which only concern iOS, also exist for iPads. They are available under the same numbers, iPadOS 18.1.1 and iPadOS 17.7.2 for the oldest generations.
