Valencia: two Malinois dogs to strengthen the municipal police

The two 14-month-old Malinois have not yet completely completed their training, but they have already gone out with their masters in the streets of Valencia during the passing of the Olympic flame on June 20. Since Monday, June 24, the Valencia municipal police have officially had a new dog brigade. The deliberation was adopted by the municipal council. Mayor Nicolas Daragon wants in some way “tester” this new device for at least one year. And the opportunity was so good since among the City’s 75 municipal police officers, one is already a trainer for dog handlers. In short, it would have been a shame not to use its skills internally.

Scare ever more violent offenders

The deputy mayor in charge of security, the former boss of the Drôme police officers Pierre-Olivier Mahaux, knows well the usefulness of dog brigades. “They are prevention and deterrent dogs since the municipal police do not have public order, maintenance or reestablishment of public order, but rather patrol on public roads”. He adds : “faced with ever more violent delinquents, it seemed interesting to us to provide the municipal police with dogs which have an extremely powerful appearance because they are malinois” . The desired effect is therefore to scare the offenders: imagine a night patrol with a dog: in front you spread fear and fear”.

The annual budget of the municipal police in Valencia is 5.5 to 6 million euros. The city has already budgeted to install 17 additional cameras next year.

The two Malinois recruited to work for the Valence municipal police are 14 months old.
