A major fire broke out this Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at around 11:30 a.m. in Briançon (Hautes-Alpes), in a Gifi warehouse located in the South business park. On site, a major system was put in place with the presence of 54 firefighters mobilized, not to mention 21 intervention vehicles to try to contain the fire.

The municipal security plan has been triggered

Potentially toxic fumes are escaping from the building fire“, indicates the mayor of the city, Arnaud Murgia, in a press release published on social networks. In this context, the elected official decided to trigger the Municipal Security Plan. Wearing a mask is recommended near the site, from the South zone to the Sports Park.

The City is distributing masks to all public establishments in the Parc des Sports at the very beginning of the afternoon and is asking the population not to take “no risk until the situation is under control“.

A fire a few hours before the Tour de France passes by

This fire occurs as the cyclists taking part in the fourth stage of the 2024 Tour de France, which links Pinerolo (Italy) to Valloire (Savoie), must pass through Briançon at around 3:30 p.m. The riders must pass about two kilometers from the scene of the fire before heading towards the Lautaret and Galibier passes.
