Transfer – Pro D2: Yohan Beheregaray swaps yellow and blue for red and white in Biarritz – Quinze Ovalie

Yohan Beheregaray, the emblematic hooker of Clermont, changes course and joins Biarritz Olympique. A new page is turning for this player who spent many seasons at the heart of ASM.

Bye-bye Clermont, bonjour Biarritz !

After spending his entire professional career in Clermont, Yohan Beheregaray packed his bags for Biarritz.

At 28, the hooker leaves his Auvergne teammates behind to return to the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, his native region. A choice of heart and opportunity when his contract with Clermont was coming to an end and Christophe Urios was not counting on him for the future.

Back to basics and new challenge

Originally from the southwest, Beheregaray is “super happy to be going home”. Signing for two years with Biarritz Olympique is a bit like coming back home. The player can’t wait to step onto Aguilera’s pitch and thrill the Basque supporters. It is also a great opportunity for him to contribute to the reconstruction of the BOPB, which is playing in Pro D2 this season.

For Biarritz Olympique, the arrival of Beheregaray is very good news. With its 120 matches a Top 14it brings a solid experience and will strengthen a first line which really needed it. James Coughlan, the sporting director, does not hide his satisfaction: “He is a crucial reinforcement for us, both for his experience and for his local roots”.

Objective: to make the BO shine

This transfer is more than just a change of club for Beheregaray. It’s a new adventure, with big challenges. Biarritz Olympique hopes that the experience and determination of their new hooker will help them get back on track in Pro D2, with the ambition of returning to the heights of French rugby.
