Jessica Casanova leaves Montpellier: Mathias Altrad arrives to replace her – Quinze Ovalie

Jessica Casanova, the general director of Montpellier Hérault Rugby (MHR), has decided to leave the club after years of good and loyal service. His departure is not without noise, and it is Mathias Altrad, the eldest son of Mohed Altrad, who will take over.

An essential figure is leaving

Jessica Casanova, one of Mohed Altrad’s loyalists since he bought MHR in 2011, announced her departure from the club. Known for her involvement and dedication, she has largely contributed to Montpellier’s rise to prominence in the Top 14. Her release is scheduled for June 30, marking the end of an era at GGL Stadium.

The departure of Casanova is a real coup, especially after the club’s recent victory in the play-off against Grenoble, which kept Montpellier in the Top 14. His departure leaves a big void in the club’s organization chart.

Tensions with Bernard Laporte

Why leave now? One of the main reasons for this departure is linked to internal tensions with Bernard Laporte, who was appointed director of rugby last November. It would seem that their divergent visions, particularly on working methods and recruitment, made their collaboration impossible. Laporte, despite the turmoil, remains in place but did not succeed in imposing his favorite candidate, Laurent Gabbanini, to replace Casanova.

It is finally Mathias Altrad, the eldest son of Mohed Altrad, who will take charge. Already involved in the family group, he begins his new role from July 1st. This choice marks a desire to maintain the management of the club within the Altrad family.

And then for Casanova?

For Jessica Casanova, the future is still uncertain. She could quickly bounce back to another club, with rumors sending her to the side of Toulon. However, a retraining outside the world of rugby also remains an option on the table. This departure could well be an opportunity for her to embark on new challenges.

In the meantime, Mohed Altrad continues to reorganize his club in his own way, by entrusting responsibilities to his children. Djena Altrad, currently deputy general director, should take a step back in his duties. The Altrad family therefore seems more than ever at the helm of the MHR, ready to take on future challenges and keep the club competitive in the Top 14.

With the departure of Casanova and the arrival of Mathias Altrad, Montpellier is preparing to experience an important period of transition. Rugby supporters and observers will closely follow how this new family management will impact the future of the club.
