Transported in critical condition to the emergency room of the CHU, a 51-year-old man, of no fixed address, died as a result of his injuries, indicates the Rennes public prosecutor’s office. On the night of Wednesday June 26 to Thursday June 27, 2024, around 11:30 p.m., he was attacked on rue Jules-Lallemand in the Cleunay district, in Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine). He collapsed on the sidewalk, unconscious, after receiving a violent blow to the back of the head.

Quickly on site on the night of the incident, police officers from the anti-crime brigade (BAC) arrested two suspects in front of a building, near the Cleunay metro station. These are two minors “14 years old, born in Romania”specifies the prosecutor, and living in the neighborhood.

Placed in pre-trial detention

At the end of their police custody, they were brought before the public prosecutor on Friday and charged with theft (a bag belonging to the victim) followed by violence resulting in death.

The minor, suspected of having struck the head, was imprisoned; the second is placed under judicial supervision, in accordance with the prosecution’s requests.

A third teenager is still being sought.
