See you in Grignols (Gironde), Sunday December 15, 2024 for the 37e edition of the capon fair. A unique, superb moment, which has managed to preserve, over the years, all its authenticity and flavor.
Because yes, the Grignols capon fair is one of the must-sees. Just like the Bœufs Gras, in Bazas, or the All Saints’ Fair, in La Réole. The date of the event is marked on many calendars, several months in advance.
The capon fair or the necessary return “to the roots”

The program for the 2024 capon fair
The 2024 capon fair takes place on Sunday December 15, 2024, on the Allées Saint-Michel de Grignols.
Here is the program:
9 a.m.: opening of the fair;
10 a.m.: mass with blessing of the capon;
11:30 a.m.: inauguration of the fair hosted by the Amuse-Gueules band
1 p.m.: meal hosted by Thierry Bordenave and his group Burgilada (€39). Reservations can be made at the Grignols town hall, until December 6, by telephone on 05 56 65 01 20
All day long, you can buy Grignols capons, sold by local producers. Gastronomic products from the South-West will also be on sale.
The capon, for the uninitiated, is a chicken that has been castrated in order to obtain a greater massbut not only… “Its meat is tender, moist”, notes Hugues Faure as a connoisseur. The icing on the poultry: the Grignols capon is a registered trademark.
Every year, for almost four decades, hundreds, even a thousand capons are sold during this unique fair in the region.
In the land of Grignols, the capon is king
“We are the only fair in Aquitaine dedicated to capons,” continues Hugues Faure. Almost everywhere there are Christmas markets, fat fairs…” But here, in the Grignols region, in the heart of South Gironde, on the border of Landes and Lot-et-Garonne, the capon is king. And so it’s been going on for more than thirty years!
Of course, the event was not really spared ; neither by covid-19, nor by health episodes like the terrible avian flu which struck the Gers two years ago. “That year, we didn’t know if we were going to do the fair,” admits Hugues Faure. Today, we are monitoring the evolution of theavian influenza… »

And on Sunday December 15, 2024, there will once again be many of them roaming the stalls in the Saint-Michel aisles. The festivities will begin at 9 a.m.
