A minor was arrested, suspected of having threatened the principal of the Jean-Jacques Rousseau college in Thonon-les-Bains (Haute-Savoie) on social networks, the prosecution announced this Friday, November 15. The school of nearly 900 students was placed under police surveillance on November 7 following threatening messages exchanged on the social network Snapchat.
“These threats made by an unknown person, who had been added to a discussion group between college students on an application, invited these students not to go to college on Friday (November 8), mentioning bombs that would be thrown in the establishment”indicates the public prosecutor of Thonon, Xavier Goux-Thiercelin, in a press release. The principal of the college had been the subject of “threats of sequestration”.
Students receiving these messages then brought them to the attention of the police. The investigations were entrusted by the prosecution to the Annecy interdepartmental judicial police service. “The investigation established that the author of the messages was a student of the establishment. who has “admitted having written the messages, explaining that he had wanted to make a 'joke' and had not measured the scope of his words”continues the prosecutor.
No evidence has made it possible to establish the “real preparation of an attack against the school establishment.” The accused student was referred to the Thonon judicial court on Friday and will be summoned for a trial hearing in December before the children's judge. Of the “temporary educational measures” were ordered concerning him.
