Originally passionate about pétanque as well as boules, Alain Vorillion first became president of the Lyon departmental boules committee from 2012 to 2016. His mandate completed, he was then elected to head the Côte-d'committee. Petanque gold in December 2016.
After a first mandate focused on the sporting aspect with the particularly successful organization of France in Saint-Apollinaire in 2019, he was re-elected in 2021 for a second mandate which must be devoted to young people and disabilities, including development of trainers’ certificates and pétanque schools. Applications for a stage of the Masters in Dijon as well as for the organization of the Worlds are also on the shelves.
Still president of the World Championships organization
“Unfortunately Covid-19 happened and our number of licensees fell from 2,100 to 1,600, including 25 young people. (currently around 2,250 licensees including 90 young people) », deplores the leader. “It took us two years to recover and from 2022 we get the world championships and we devoted ourselves mainly to organizing them. »
Despite a very positive assessment, he decided to leave his departmental functions, without definitively cutting ties with the world of pétanque. “Eight years of presidency is a lot and I now plan to devote more time to my family,” admits the president. “On the other hand, I will continue to take care of the Regional Training Center of the BFC and I am also on the list of educators at the FFPJP. »
At the end of Saturday's AGM, Alain Vorillion will still remain president of the organization of the next Worlds in Dijon from December 5 to 8, and he could end up in apotheosis in the event of a French victory in three weeks.
